Office pranks to keep the fun going

Trick your colleagues

The workplace is usually filled with formal conversations, but every now and then, a little humor goes a long way in making the office a fun place to be. And what better excuse to sprinkle some mischief into the workday than April Fools' Day?

If you've got a harmless prank up your sleeve, go for it! If not, we've got some suggestions. And remember, any office pranks should keep things light and not cross any boundaries—it's about having fun while staying professional!

#1 Hey, I'm on vacation

No, you’re not actually on vacation—but let’s make everyone think you are! Set your status to something like “Sipping coconut water in Bali” and enable an auto-response message in Zoho Cliq, all while staying active in work channels and DMing people like nothing’s changed. Watch your colleagues do a double-take, wondering, "Wait…aren't they on vacation?"

#2 Sticky surprises

Grab a stack of post-it notes and write innocent dares. Keep it light and fun.

For example:

1. "Dance in the middle of the lunch hall for at least 15 seconds."

2. "Share a silly, off-topic GIF in the team chat."

#3 Go remote after checking in from the office

Step 1: Check in at the office using your ID card.

Step 2: Walk casually to your desk, check out from the Remote Work tab, and check back in. Congratulations, you now exist in two places at once.

When people want to collaborate with you, they'll ping you expecting that you're working remotely. Hide somewhere nearby and respond to them, mentioning the things they’re doing. They’ll get confused and start searching for you.

Do this to as many people as you can fool without getting caught. Finally, sneak up next to them and surprise them. They’ll be shocked, saying, "Wait, weren’t you working remotely today? When did you get here?"

#4 Yours anonymous-ally

Post jokes or funny compliments about your colleagues—without them ever knowing who’s behind it! With our Anonymous Ally integration in Zoho Cliq, you can drop a hilarious message in your channels every hour. Imagine being in an important meeting, and suddenly, a colleague starts rambling nonsense, thinking they’re on mute. Or the coffee addict who’s always brewing their next cup. And then there’s that one person who’s always ready for a break.

#5 The mimic bot

Olivia typed, "Hi Team, Good afternoon. Can you send me the update progress of the development for Zylker 3.0?" and hit send. A second later, the same message appeared again. "Come clean with me; I will find out who did this!" She shot back. But the exact words echoed back at her before she could even blink. Her confusion turned to laughter. "Seriously, stop it!" But her message bounced back at her. The mimic bot wasn't backing down.

#6 Weird reminders

Want to keep your colleague on their toes? Set a string of strange reminders that pop up on their screen throughout the day. For example:

10:00 AM – Wave "hi" to [your name here].

10:15 AM – Water your desk plant. It looks like it needs help.

11:45 AM – Take a two-hour break.

They'll never know when the next one is coming. Just when they think it's over, another one comes in. Keep them guessing and keep yourself entertained.

#7 Big fake announcement!

We regret to inform you that...

...there’s absolutely nothing to inform you about. We just wanted your attention.

Try something like this on your social media to gain attention from your audience—you never know, some readers might become your customers.

#8 Important client meeting now

Schedule a serious (but fake) client meeting and book one of the conference rooms on your floor. Give the meeting an urgent title—like Key Launch Date Decision. A few minutes before, drop a message in the channel:

"Team, I just got word that the client suddenly wants to jump on a video call. It's super important. Let's meet in conference room 1 in 10 minutes."

Watch as your team rushes to the room with their laptops. At the scheduled time, confidently start the meeting: "Alright, everyone. Thanks for joining. The client should be on in a minute… Just hold tight."

Then—leave the room and vanish. Let them sit awkwardly for a few minutes, exchanging confused glances and whispering, "Wait… what just happened?" and "Should we just leave?"

Get creative with your pranks and let the mischief unfold, but keep in mind that the goal is to promote lighthearted fun!
