Passkeys are the modern-day alternative authentication method that was introduced to replace traditional passwords for enhanced security and convenience. While passwords are user-generated (password123, 123456, root, etc.) and easy to compromise, the passkeys function is based on the public-private cryptographic key pair system making, it more robust.
For example, if Barbara wants to configure a passkey for her Amazon account, one half of the key will be stored on her device, and the other half will be stored on Amazon, making it hard for hackers to intercept or misuse them. Once the passkey is configured for her Amazon account, Barbara will only enter her email address and will be prompted to authenticate via the device using PIN/Touch ID/Face ID from the device where she configured the passkey.
The week of November 18 to 24, 2024, is considered #PasskeysWeek worldwide to spread awareness about passkeys. So now is the best time to talk about how Zoho users can adopt passkeys.
1. Sign in using passkeys to your Zoho Account
Zoho users can now configure passkeys to sign in to their accounts securely. This will help users eliminate traditional passwords altogether as well as the need for separate multi-factor authentication, because the passkey itself acts as both.
- Go to accounts.zoho.com or the Zoho OneAuth application to generate a passkey for your Zoho Account.
- The generated passkey will then be stored and synced on Apple ID's iCloud Keychain on Apple devices and on Google Password Manager on Android or Chromium devices.
- Learn more.
2. Store and recover passkeys with Zoho OneAuth
Zoho OneAuth is Zoho's free multi-factor authentication app that works seamlessly with both Zoho apps and third-party apps like Twitter, Atlassian, DocuSign, and many more.
Users can configure passkey for their Zoho Account and also use it for cloud syncing of two-factor authentication (TFA) accounts. If your device is lost or stolen, or if you move to a new device, you can easily recover your accounts.
- Open the Zoho OneAuth mobile app.
- Navigate to Settings > Account Settings > Passkey > Set Passkey.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to set up a passkey.
- Learn more.
3. Unlock Zoho Vault password manager with passkeys
Zoho offers a password management solution for individuals and enterprises with Zoho Vault. Users should configure a master password to unlock their Zoho Vault account, from which they can log into everywhere else. Now, users can use a passkey or Zoho OneAuth to unlock their Vault account instead of manually typing the master password every time.
- On the welcome screen of Zoho Vault, select Trust this browser.
- Configure unlocking options: Zoho OneAuth (or) Authenticators.
- Learn more.
Passkey management coming soon
In the coming months, Zoho Vault will roll out passkey management for businesses in addition to password management.
We hope this blog post was useful and informative to introduce you to the latest passkey authentication mechanism available in Zoho apps. So why wait?
