Kenya is going through a rapid digital transformation, and Zoho is supporting this growth with its cloud solutions, local office, employees, partners, and technical expertise. In our recent annual user conference, Zoholics 2024 in Kenya, we announced our locally compliant digital signatures by partnering with licensed E-CSPs that are accredited by the Communications Authority of Kenya. Also in attendance at Zoholics Kenya was Dennis Loyatum, Cyber Security Specialist at the Communications Authority of Kenya, who shared his insights on digital trust and public-private partnership.

Following this event, Zoho was invited by the Communications Authority of Kenya to participate in the National Public Key Infrastructure (NPKI) Forum 2024, where government regulators, cybersecurity experts, banking professionals, real-estate specialists, technology providers, and other key stakeholders all come under one umbrella to discuss the importance of digital signatures and trust in Kenya's digital transformation.

The NPKI forum is a culmination of five African countries—South Africa, Uganda, Ivory Coast, Ghana, and Kenya—that have come together to uphold the below principles of digital trust:

  • Standardization and interoperability

  • Capacity building and collaboration

  • Regulatory and legal frameworks

  • Trust and compliance

  • Inclusivity and accessibility

  • Cybersecurity and resilience

  • Continuous evaluation and improvement

Notable Kenyan government authorities and subject experts, such as Dr. Vincent Ngundi, Director of Cyber Security at the Communications Authority of Kenya; David Mugonyi, Director General and CEO at the Communications Authority of Kenya; and members from other licensed E-CSPs such as Tendaworld, Geda (EvroTrust), eMudhra, and others graced the ocassion.

Some of the key conclusions that emerged from the deliberations at the annual #NPKIForum2024 include the need for:

  • Collaboration amongst all stakeholders

  • Robust legal and regulatory frameworks

  • Frequent capacity-building programs

  • Digital trust and assurance to encourage the adoption of digital certification services

  • Leveraging emerging technologies, such as quantum computing and blockchain-based solutions that will shape the future of the NPKI to meet evolving security needs

The next annual NPKI will be hosted by Ghana, one of the NPKI member nations, in Accra in 2025, and Zoho Sign looks forward to being a part of the forum with contributions towards Kenya's digital transformation agenda.
