# How can I assign alternate billing and shipping address for a contact?

**Method 1:** You can assign separate billing and shipping addresses during creation of a contact or by updating them while editing a contact. Find out more about customers and vendors inside the [Contacts](/inventory/help/contacts/contacts-overview.html) help module.

**Method 2:**

*   In any sales order, purchase order or any other kind of transaction, you can assign separate billing and shipping addresses for a contact.
*   This can be done by clicking on the pencil icons near the fields Bill To and Ship To under the contact name in an order/transaction.
*   A pop up appears, here you can update/change the address.

**Note:** This will also be updated to the contact. You can have only one billing and shipping address for a contact at a time.
