# How can my customers pay for an invoice from the customer portal?

**Prerequisite:** Your customers can make an online payment for an invoice only if you have associated a payment gateway with that invoice. Read our help document on [how online payment works in invoices](/books/help/invoice/record-payment-for-invoice.html#how-online) to know more.

Here’s how your customers can pay for invoices from the customer portal:

*   Log in to the customer portal using the portal URL and credentials.
*   Click _Invoices_ on the left sidebar.
*   Click **Pay Now** next to the invoice for which payment has to be made.
*   Select the method of payment.
*   The subsequent steps vary based on the method chosen. Complete the payment.

Once your customer pays for an invoice, the status of the invoice will change to Paid.
